Purpose of the Test

Abdomen and prostate ultrasound is performed to diagnose a variety of medical conditions affecting the abdomen and prostate, such as kidney stones, liver disease, prostate cancer, and other conditions.

When this test is required

Abdomen and prostate ultrasound may be requested if a patient is experiencing symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, difficulty urinating, or other symptoms that suggest a problem with the abdomen or prostate gland. The test may also be recommended as part of routine screening for certain medical conditions, such as prostate cancer.

What the Test Detects

Abdomen and prostate ultrasound evaluates the abdominal organs and the prostate gland. The test produces images of the organs and can detect any abnormalities or problems that may require further evaluation or treatment.

Preparation for the Test

Before the test, the patient may be asked to fast for several hours to ensure that the stomach is empty. The patient may also be asked to drink water and have a full bladder to improve image quality during the prostate ultrasound.
