Purpose of the Test

Renal biopsy with H/P and immunofluorescence and light microscopy is done to diagnose the cause of kidney diseases and assess the severity of kidney damage.

When this test is required

Renal biopsy with H/P and immunofluorescence and light microscopy is requested by a doctor when the cause of kidney disease is not clear, or when other tests have failed to diagnose the condition.

What the Test Detects

The renal biopsy with H/P and immunofluorescence and light microscopy examines the structure of the kidney tissue to diagnose kidney diseases, such as glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and vasculitis. Immunofluorescence and light microscopy are used to identify and analyze the immune complexes and other substances in the kidney tissue that may cause damage.

Preparation for the Test

The patient should inform the doctor of any medical conditions, allergies, or medications they are taking. The patient may be asked to stop taking certain medications before the biopsy.

Sample Requirements

A small sample of kidney tissue is obtained using a special needle or during surgery.

Renal biopsy is a relatively safe procedure, but there are some risks, such as bleeding, infection, and damage to nearby organs. The patient should inform the doctor of any medical conditions, allergies, or medications they are taking.
