Purpose of the MRI Temporo- Mandibular Joint (TMJ) With Contrast Test

A CT Myelography can help your doctor determine the cause of your symptoms, such as back or neck pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness. It can provide more detailed information than a regular CT scan or MRI.

When this MRI Temporo- Mandibular Joint (TMJ) With Contrast test is required

CT myelography may be requested when a patient has unexplained back or neck pain, arm or leg weakness, numbness or tingling, or bowel or bladder problems. It can also be used to evaluate the success of a previous surgery, monitor the progression of a condition, or plan for a surgical procedure.

What the MRI Temporo- Mandibular Joint (TMJ) With Contrast Test Detects

CT myelography is a diagnostic imaging test that uses a contrast agent and computed tomography (CT) technology to visualize the spinal cord and its surrounding structures. It is primarily used to identify abnormalities, such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis, tumors, or infections that may be affecting the spinal cord.

Preparation for the MRI Temporo- Mandibular Joint (TMJ) With Contrast Test

Generally, no specific preparation is required for a CT scan of the lower limb without contrast. However, patients may be advised to wear loose and comfortable clothing and avoid wearing metal objects or jewelry on the legs, as these can interfere with the scan results. Patients may also be asked to remove any clothing or objects that could interfere with the scan, such as belts, piercings, or hearing aids. It is important for patients to inform their healthcare provider if they have any allergies, medical conditions, or are pregnant before undergoing a CT scan.

Sample Requirements

No sample is required for a CT Myelography. Instead, a contrast agent is injected into your spinal canal to help visualize the nerves and spinal cord during the CT scan.

Additional Notes

Before undergoing a CT myelography, patients should inform their doctor if they are pregnant, have any allergies, or are taking any medications that may affect blood clotting. It is also important to avoid eating or drinking anything for a few hours before the procedure. After the procedure, patients may experience mild side effects, such as headaches, nausea, or dizziness. These usually resolve on their own within a few hours. In rare cases, more serious complications, such as seizures or allergic reactions, may occur. Patients should inform their doctor immediately if they experience any unusual symptoms after the test.
