Purpose of the Test

This test is usually ordered by doctors to evaluate various organs and tissues in the chest, abdomen, and pelvis. It is commonly used to look for tumors or abnormalities in the liver, pancreas, kidneys, bladder, and other organs. It can also help diagnose certain conditions such as cancer, infections, and inflammatory diseases.

When this test is required

What the Test Detects

This test evaluates the chest, abdomen, and pelvis using a contrast agent to produce highly detailed images of organs, blood vessels, and tissues in these areas. The contrast agent is usually injected into a vein in your arm before the test.

Preparation for the Test

Prior to the test, you may be asked to avoid eating or drinking for several hours. You may also be asked to remove any metal objects and jewelry, and wear loose-fitting clothing. Your doctor may also ask you to stop taking certain medications that may interfere with the test.
