Purpose of the Test

The test is useful in evaluating and diagnosing a range of medical conditions that affect the bile ducts and pancreas, such as gallstones, tumors, inflammation, and structural abnormalities. When this test is required

What the Test Detects

Preparation for the Test

No specific preparation is needed for the MRCP test. However, patients should inform their doctor of any metal objects they may have in their body, as these can interfere with the MRI machine. Patients may also be asked to remove any jewelry or clothing that contains metal before the test.

Additional Notes

While the MRCP test is generally considered safe, there is a small risk of an allergic reaction to the contrast agent used in some cases.
