An echocardiogram for DCMP may be performed if a healthcare provider suspects that a patient has DCMP or needs to monitor the progression of the disease.
When this test is required
An echocardiogram for DCMP may be requested if a healthcare provider suspects that a patient has DCMP or needs to monitor the progression of the disease.
What the Test Detects
During an echocardiogram, high-frequency sound waves are used to create images of the heart. The test can show the size and shape of the heart, the thickness and movement of the heart walls, and the function of the heart valves.
Preparation for the Test
No special preparation is required for an echocardiogram for DCMP. Patients should wear comfortable clothing and may be asked to remove clothing from the chest area.
Sample Requirements
No sample is required for an echocardiogram.
Additional Notes
Echocardiograms are non-invasive and generally safe. However, the test may not be able to detect all cases of DCMP, and additional testing may be necessary if the diagnosis is unclear. It’s important to inform the healthcare provider of any medications or allergies before undergoing an echocardiogram.
