Purpose of the Test

Ascitic fluid testing for fungus stain and culture is ordered to diagnose fungal infections of the abdominal cavity or peritoneal cavity, also known as fungal peritonitis. Fungal peritonitis can occur in people with cirrhosis, peritoneal dialysis, or other conditions that compromise the immune system.

When this test is required
