Purpose of the Test

The Anti-EBV (EBNA-1) IgG test is performed to determine whether a person has been previously infected with Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV). It is used to diagnose infectious mononucleosis, monitor the progression of EBV-related cancers, and to assess the immune status of transplant recipients.

When this test is required

The Anti-EBV (EBNA-1) IgG test may be requested when a person shows signs and symptoms of infectious mononucleosis or other EBV-related diseases. It may also be ordered to monitor the progression of EBV-related cancers or to assess the immune status of transplant recipients.

What the Test Detects

The Anti-EBV (EBNA-1) IgG test measures the levels of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies against the Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) nuclear antigen 1 (EBNA-1).

Preparation for the Test

No special preparation is required for this test.

Sample Requirements

A blood sample is required for the Anti-EBV (EBNA-1) IgG test.

Additional Notes

A negative result does not rule out the possibility of an active EBV infection, especially in immunocompromised individuals. The test should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory tests.
