When this test is required

This test may be requested by a doctor if a person experiences symptoms of injury or other conditions affecting the lower leg.

What the Test Detects

This imaging test uses x-rays to capture images of the tibia and fibula, which are the two bones located in the lower leg. The test provides both anterior-posterior (AP) and lateral views, which can help assess the alignment, position, and condition of the bones.

Preparation for the Test

There is typically no special preparation required for this test. Patients should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing, and may be asked to remove any jewelry or metal objects that could interfere with the imaging.

Sample Requirements

No sample is required for X-ray of the tibia and fibula with both AP and lateral views.

Additional Notes

X-ray of the tibia and fibula with both AP and lateral views is a non-invasive and relatively safe imaging test that uses low levels of radiation. However, it is important to inform the radiology technologist or doctor if you are pregnant, as radiation exposure can be harmful to developing fetuses.
