Purpose of the Test

A Pelvis X-Ray (Antero-Posterior View) is usually performed to evaluate bone fractures, abnormalities or degenerative changes in the pelvis. It can help identify the cause of pelvic pain, difficulty walking or standing, and in some cases, help diagnose pelvic tumors, congenital deformities, or skeletal irregularities.

When this test is required

A Pelvis X-Ray may be requested by a healthcare provider if the patient experiences pelvic pain, difficulty walking or standing, or after a fall or other traumatic injury that may have affected the pelvis. It may also be ordered as a routine test for certain medical conditions or as part of a pre-employment screening process.

What the Test Detects

A Pelvis X-Ray is a diagnostic imaging test that uses a small amount of ionizing radiation to produce images of the bones and surrounding tissues of the pelvis. The test produces an Antero-Posterior view image of the pelvis.

Preparation for the Test

No special preparation is required for a Pelvis X-Ray. However, patients will be asked to remove any clothing or objects that may interfere with the imaging, such as jewelry, belts or metal objects.

Sample Requirements

No sample is required for a Pelvis X-Ray.

Additional Notes

As with all imaging tests, a Pelvis X-Ray involves a small amount of ionizing radiation, which can be harmful in large doses. However, the amount of radiation used in a single X-Ray test is generally considered safe. Pregnant women should inform their healthcare provider before having an X-Ray, as the radiation may harm the developing fetus.
