When this test is required

An X-Ray of the neck in lateral view may be requested by a doctor or other healthcare provider if there is suspicion of a medical condition affecting the neck region. It may also be ordered as part of a routine medical exam or as part of pre-operative planning.

What the Test Detects

An X-Ray of the neck in lateral view produces images of the bones, joints, and soft tissues in the neck region. It can reveal information about the alignment and stability of the cervical spine, as well as any abnormal growths or masses that may be present.

Preparation for the Test

No special preparation is usually needed for this test. The person should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and remove any jewelry or metal objects that could interfere with the imaging process.

Sample Requirements

No sample is required for an X-Ray of the neck in lateral view.

Additional Notes

As with any medical imaging test that involves radiation exposure, there is a small risk of harm associated with X-Ray of the neck in lateral view. However, the amount of radiation exposure is generally considered to be very low and the benefits of the test usually outweigh the risks. Pregnant women should inform their healthcare provider before undergoing any X-Ray examination.
