Purpose of the Test

X-Ray of the Chest in LAT view (Lateral) is used to visualize the side view of the structures of the chest, including the lungs, heart, blood vessels, and bones. This view is usually requested when a specific area of the chest needs to be examined in more detail or when a healthcare provider wants to get a better view of a particular condition.

When this test is required

A Chest X-ray in LAT view may be requested by a healthcare provider when a person is experiencing symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing, or wheezing. It may also be ordered as part of a routine medical checkup or pre-employment screening.

Preparation for the Test

It is important to inform the healthcare provider performing the X-ray if you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant, as special precautions may need to be taken to minimize radiation exposure to the fetus. Additionally, if you have any metal implants in your chest or are wearing jewelry or clothing that may interfere with the imaging process, you should inform the healthcare provider before the test.

Sample Requirements

No sample is required for an X-ray. Generally, there is no preparation needed for a Chest X-ray in LAT view, but the healthcare provider may ask you to remove any metal objects that could interfere with the imaging process.
