USG of the cranium is primarily used to evaluate the brain and cranial structures in infants and young children. It can be used to detect abnormalities in the brain, such as bleeding, swelling, or hydrocephalus (excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain). It can also be used to evaluate the development of the brain and the skull, such as detecting skull fractures, malformations, or abnormalities in the shape or size of the skull.
