Purpose of the Test

A color Doppler ultrasound of both lower extremities is done to check for deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which is the formation of blood clots in the veins. This test helps in the diagnosis of DVT, which can be life-threatening if not diagnosed and treated on time.

When this test is required

This test is requested when a patient presents with symptoms of DVT or is at a high risk of developing DVT.

What the Test Detects

A color Doppler ultrasound uses sound waves to create images of the blood vessels in the legs. It can detect blood clots in the veins and evaluate blood flow in the legs.

Preparation for the Test
