Purpose of the Test

Ultra Sound (USG) Chest is a diagnostic test that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the chest cavity and its contents, including the lungs, heart, and blood vessels.

When this test is required

A physician may request a chest ultrasound if they suspect a patient has an underlying chest condition or as a follow-up to other imaging studies. The test is usually performed by a radiology technologist or a sonographer, and the results are interpreted by a radiologist or a physician.

What the Test Detects

Ultrasound of the chest is a medical imaging test that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the organs and tissues in the chest area. The ultrasound can detect abnormalities in the lungs, heart, blood vessels, and other structures in the chest.

Preparation for the Test

It is important to note that USG Chest may not be appropriate for all patients, and your healthcare provider will determine if this test is the best option for your individual needs.. Patients may be asked to wear loose-fitting clothing for the test and may need to remove any jewelry or metal objects from the chest area. No special preparation, such as fasting or medication changes, is typically required for USG Chest.

Sample Requirements

There is no specific sample required for USG Chest. The test is performed by a trained technician or radiologist who will apply a special gel to the patient’s chest and use a handheld transducer to capture images of the chest cavity.

Additional Notes

Patients should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and avoid applying lotions or oils to the chest area before the test. In some cases, the technologist may ask the patient to change into a gown. The test itself typically takes around 30 minutes to complete, and the patient may be asked to hold their breath or change positions during the exam. After the test, the patient can resume their normal activities immediately.
