Purpose of the Test

An MRI Plain may be ordered to help diagnose a wide range of medical conditions or injuries affecting different regions of the body, including the brain, spine, chest, abdomen, pelvis, limbs, and other organs. The test may be performed to evaluate symptoms such as pain, swelling, stiffness, weakness, or numbness, or to monitor the progression of a known condition.

When this test is required

An MRI Plain may be requested by your doctor if you are experiencing symptoms that require further investigation or if they need more information to make a diagnosis or determine the best course of treatment. It may also be ordered as a routine screening or follow-up test for certain medical conditions.

What the Test Detects

An MRI Plain uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves, and a computer to produce detailed images of the body’s internal structures. The test can detect abnormalities in soft tissues, such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, and organs, that may not be visible on X-rays or CT scans.

Preparation for the Test

The preparation for an MRI Plain depends on the specific body part being scanned. You will be asked to remove any metal objects, such as jewelry, watches, or dentures, and to wear loose, comfortable clothing without metal fasteners or zippers. You may be asked to change into a hospital gown. In some cases, you may need to fast for a certain period of time before the test.

Sample Requirements

No samples are required for an MRI Plain test.

Additional Notes

An MRI Plain is a safe and non-invasive test, but it may not be suitable for everyone, particularly those with certain medical conditions or implanted devices, such as pacemakers or cochlear implants. If you have any concerns or questions about the test, talk to your doctor or healthcare provider.
