MRI Myelogram is a safe and non-invasive test that does not involve radiation. However, patients should inform their healthcare provider of any medical conditions, allergies, or implanted devices that may interfere with the test. They should also remove any metal objects, such as jewelry or clothing with metal zippers or buttons, and change into a hospital gown before the test. Patients should follow any instructions provided by their healthcare provider regarding fasting or other preparation for the test. Depending on the type of contrast material used, patients may be asked to avoid eating or drinking for a few hours before the test. It is important to inform your healthcare provider if you have any kidney disease, as some types of contrast material can affect kidney function. After the test, patients should drink plenty of fluids to help flush the contrast material out of their system. The test can take up to an hour or more to complete, during which patients will need to lie still inside the MRI machine. Some patients may experience anxiety or claustrophobia during the test, so they may be offered medication to help them relax.
