Purpose of the Test

MRI Dorsal Spine Without Contrast is usually done to evaluate the spine and surrounding tissues for any abnormalities, such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis, tumors, infections, or injuries.

When this test is required

This test may be requested by a doctor if a patient experiences unexplained back pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness in the arms or legs, or if they have a known spinal condition that needs to be monitored.

What the Test Detects

MRI Dorsal Spine Without Contrast uses a magnetic field and radio waves to produce detailed images of the dorsal spine, including the spinal cord, nerves, discs, and surrounding tissues.

Preparation for the Test

The patient needs to remove all metal objects from their body, including jewelry, watches, and hairpins, and may be asked to change into a gown. The patient should inform the doctor if they have any metal implants, such as pacemakers, artificial heart valves, or cochlear implants, or any medical conditions that may make lying still for an extended period difficult.

Sample Requirements

No sample is required for MRI Dorsal Spine Without Contrast.

Additional Notes

The MRI machine is loud and may cause discomfort to some patients. Some patients may also feel claustrophobic in the narrow tube. In such cases, the patient can request a sedative to help them relax during the test. The results of the MRI will be interpreted by a radiologist and sent to the ordering physician.
