Purpose of the Test

This test is typically requested to evaluate for injuries, nerve damage, tumors, infections, or other abnormalities in the brachial plexus.

When this test is required

An MRI Brachial Plexus without contrast may be requested when other imaging tests, such as X-rays or CT scans, are not able to provide enough information about the brachial plexus injury or abnormality.

What the Test Detects

During an MRI Brachial Plexus without contrast, a strong magnetic field and radio waves are used to produce detailed images of the brachial plexus and surrounding structures, such as muscles, bones, and blood vessels.

Preparation for the Test

Before the test, you should inform your healthcare provider if you have any metal implants, pacemaker, or other medical devices, as these may interfere with the MRI scan. You may also be asked to avoid eating or drinking for a certain period before the test.

Sample Requirements

No samples are required for this test.

Additional Notes

MRI Brachial Plexus without contrast is generally safe and painless, but some people may experience mild discomfort or claustrophobia during the test. You should inform your healthcare provider if you have a history of allergic reactions to contrast agents or any other medications. It is also important to inform your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or have any other medical conditions that may be affected by the strong magnetic field used during the test.
