Purpose of the Test

A Monkeypox DNA by PCR (Qualitative) test is used to detect the presence of Monkeypox virus in a patient’s sample.

When this test is required

The test is requested when there is a suspicion of Monkeypox infection in a patient. This may occur in cases where the patient has a history of travel to areas where Monkeypox is known to be endemic or has been in contact with infected animals or humans.

What the Test Detects

The Monkeypox DNA by PCR (Qualitative) test uses the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique to amplify and detect Monkeypox virus DNA in the patient’s sample.

Preparation for the Test

No specific test preparation is needed for this test. However, it is important to inform the healthcare provider of any medications, supplements, or herbal products that you are taking.

Sample Requirements

The sample required for this test can be any body fluid or tissue sample, such as blood, saliva, or skin lesions.

Additional Notes

It is important to note that a positive result on this test does not necessarily indicate that the patient has an active infection, as the virus may persist in some patients even after they have recovered from the disease. Additionally, false negatives may occur in patients who have been infected for a short period or whose viral load is low. Therefore, the test results should always be interpreted in the context of the patient’s clinical presentation and other diagnostic tests.
