A mammogram of the left breast is used to detect breast cancer or other breast abnormalities.

A mammogram of the left breast may be requested as a routine screening or if a woman or her doctor has noticed a lump or other abnormality in the breast.

What the Mammogram Left Breast (CC/MLO) Views Test Detects

The mammogram uses low-dose X-rays to create images of the breast tissue. The left breast is imaged from two angles, the craniocaudal (CC) and the mediolateral oblique (MLO) view.

Preparation for the Mammogram Left Breast (CC/MLO) Views Test

On the day of the exam, it is recommended to avoid wearing deodorant, perfume, or powder under the arms or on the breasts as these can interfere with the imaging. Wear comfortable, two-piece clothing as you will need to undress from the waist up and wear a gown.

Sample Requirements

No samples are required for a mammogram.

Mammograms can be uncomfortable or even painful for some women, but they are generally quick and the discomfort is temporary. If you are concerned about the exam, talk to your doctor beforehand about any questions or fears you may have.
