Purpose of the Test

This test is performed to measure the insulin levels in the blood one hour after consuming a drink containing 75 grams of glucose. It is done to assess insulin secretion in response to glucose intake and diagnose diabetes or monitor the treatment effectiveness of diabetes.

When this test is required

This test is requested when diabetes is suspected or for individuals with a previous diagnosis of diabetes to monitor their insulin response to glucose intake. It may also be ordered to evaluate individuals with hypoglycemia or other insulin-related conditions.

What the Test Detects

This test measures the insulin levels in the blood one hour after consuming a drink containing 75 grams of glucose.

Preparation for the Test

Before the test, the individual is asked to fast for at least 8 hours. During the test, the individual consumes a drink containing 75 grams of glucose, and their blood is drawn one hour later for the measurement of insulin levels.

Sample Requirements

This test requires a blood sample taken one hour after consuming a drink containing 75 grams of glucose.

Additional Notes

This test requires a fast before the test, and the individual should not eat or drink anything except water for at least 8 hours before the test. The individual should also avoid any strenuous activity that could affect the glucose metabolism before the test. The test result should always be interpreted in conjunction with clinical signs and symptoms and other laboratory test results.
