The fluid slides for review with Gram stain and ZN stain are preliminary tests and may need to be confirmed with other tests, such as a culture or nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT). It is also important to note that the tests may not be able to detect all types of bacteria and that false-positive and false-negative results are possible.
