Purpose of the Test

This test is performed on blood donors to screen for the presence of various infectious agents such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV, syphilis, and malaria.

This test is requested for all blood donors before they donate blood.

What the Test Detects

This test is used to screen blood donors for the presence of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), antibodies to hepatitis C virus (anti-HCV), antibodies to human immunodeficiency virus (anti-HIV), antibodies to hepatitis B core antigen (anti-HBc), venereal disease research laboratory test (VDRL), and malarial parasites (MP).
