This test is typically ordered to help diagnose and monitor conditions affecting the urinary tract, such as kidney stones, tumors, infections, or obstruction.
When this test is required
This test may be requested by a variety of medical professionals, including urologists, radiologists, and general practitioners.
What the Test Detects
The CT Urography (Multiphasic) test is used to create detailed images of the urinary tract, including the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra, to identify any abnormalities or changes in these structures.
Preparation for the Test
Patients may need to avoid eating or drinking anything for a few hours before the test, and may need to drink a lot of fluids to help clear the contrast dye from their system after the test. Patients should inform their doctor if they have any allergies or kidney problems, as they may need to receive a different type of contrast dye.
Sample Requirements
No sample is required for this test.
Additional Notes
CT Urography (Multiphasic) is a safe and non-invasive test, but it does expose patients to a small amount of radiation and contrast dye. Patients should inform their doctor if they are pregnant or breastfeeding, as radiation and contrast dye can be harmful to developing fetuses and infants. Patients with kidney problems may need to receive extra fluids or medications to help protect their kidneys during the test.
