Purpose of the Test

This test is typically performed to help diagnose and monitor a variety of conditions affecting the liver and other organs in the abdomen, such as tumors, infections, and blood clots. It is also useful for evaluating the function and health of a transplanted organ.

When this test is required

This test may be requested by a variety of medical professionals, including hepatologists, transplant surgeons, and general practitioners.

What the Test Detects

The CT Triphasic Abdomen is used to create detailed images of the liver, pancreas, spleen, and other organs in the abdomen, as well as the blood vessels that supply them, to identify any abnormalities or changes in these structures.

Preparation for the Test

Patients will need to fast for several hours before the test and may be required to drink a contrast solution before the exam. Patients should also inform their doctor if they have any allergies or kidney problems, as the contrast agent can sometimes cause adverse reactions.

Sample Requirements

No sample is required for this test.

Additional Notes

CT Triphasic Abdomen is a safe and non-invasive test, but it does expose patients to a small amount of radiation. Patients should inform their doctor if they are pregnant or breastfeeding, as radiation can be harmful to developing fetuses and infants. Patients should also inform their doctor if they have any allergies or kidney problems, as the contrast agent can sometimes cause adverse reactions. For transplant patients, it is important to inform the medical team of any medications being taken, as they can affect the results of the test.
