A CT paranasal sinuses without contrast, also known as the “FESS protocol,” is a diagnostic medical imaging test that uses computed tomography to produce detailed images of the structures in the sinuses without the use of a contrast dye.The test is used to evaluate the sinuses for a variety of conditions, such as:Chronic or recurrent sinus infectionsChronic sinusitisNasal polyps or growthsTrauma or injury to the face or sinusesCongenital abnormalities or structural issuesThe test is non-invasive and involves lying still on a table while the CT scanner takes images.
