Purpose of the Test

This test may be ordered to evaluate patients with suspected lung diseases or conditions, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer, or pulmonary fibrosis.

When this test is required

This test may be requested by a variety of medical professionals, including pulmonologists, radiologists, and general practitioners.

What the Test Detects

CT Virtual Bronchoscopy without contrast is used to create a 3D image of the airways in the lungs, to help evaluate and diagnose lung diseases and conditions.

Preparation for the Test

Patients may need to avoid eating or drinking anything for a few hours before the test, and may need to wear loose-fitting clothing without any metal fasteners. Patients should inform their doctor if they have any allergies, as they may need to receive medications to help prevent an allergic reaction.

Additional Notes

CT Virtual Bronchoscopy without contrast is a safe and non-invasive test, but it does expose patients to a small amount of radiation. Patients should inform their doctor if they are pregnant or breastfeeding, as radiation can be harmful to developing fetuses and infants.
