Purpose of the Test

This test may be ordered by a doctor for several reasons, including:To evaluate the lungs, heart, liver, spleen, pancreas, and other organs in the chest and abdomenTo look for signs of infection, inflammation, injury, or tumors in the chest and abdomenTo diagnose certain lung and abdominal conditions, such as pneumonia, emphysema, pulmonary embolism, and abdominal aortic aneurysm.

When this test is required

CT Chest & Abdomen without contrast may be requested by a doctor if a patient has symptoms that suggest a lung or abdominal condition, or as a routine screening test for individuals at risk of certain medical conditions.

What the Test Detects

The CT Chest & Abdomen without contrast produces detailed cross-sectional images of the chest and abdomen, which can help identify abnormalities, such as tumors or fluid collections.

Preparation for the Test

The patient will be asked to wear loose, comfortable clothing and may be asked to remove any metal objects, such as jewelry, before the test. They may also be asked to fast for a few hours before the test.
