Purpose of the Test

This test may be ordered to evaluate patients with suspected blood vessel abnormalities or disorders in the brain, such as an aneurysm, stroke, or arteriovenous malformation. It can also be used to evaluate sinuses and surrounding structures for suspected abnormalities such as inflammation, sinusitis or tumours.

When this test is required

This test may be requested by a variety of medical professionals, including neurologists, radiologists, and general practitioners.

What the Test Detects

CTA Brain + PNS is used to create a 3D image of the blood vessels in the brain and surrounding sinuses, to help diagnose blood vessel abnormalities and disorders, as well as sinus pathologies.

Preparation for the Test

Patients may need to avoid eating or drinking anything for a few hours before the test, and may need to wear loose-fitting clothing without any metal fasteners. Patients should inform their doctor if they have any allergies, as they may need to receive medications to help prevent an allergic reaction.

Additional Notes

CTA Brain + PNS is a safe and non-invasive test, but it does expose patients to a small amount of radiation. Patients should inform their doctor if they are pregnant or breastfeeding, as radiation can be harmful to developing fetuses and infants.
