Purpose of the Test

The Cross Matching with donor Screening test is used to ensure compatibility between the blood of a patient and a specific donor before a blood transfusion is performed. The test checks for the presence of antibodies in the recipient’s blood that may react with antigens on the donor’s blood cells. The donor screening component of the test checks for the presence of infectious agents such as HBsAg, HCV, HIV, HBc, VDRL, and MP.

When this test is required

If the test results show compatibility between the donor and recipient blood, the transfusion can proceed. If the results show incompatibility, the transfusion cannot proceed without risking a transfusion reaction.

What the Test Detects

The test determines whether the donor blood is compatible with the recipient’s blood type and whether there are any potential transfusion reactions that may occur.

Preparation for the Test

No specific test preparation is required for the recipient, but the donor must be screened for infectious agents prior to the transfusion.

Sample Requirements

A blood sample is required from both the recipient and the donor. The donor sample is screened for infectious agents and the recipient sample is tested to ensure compatibility with the donor blood.
