Purpose of the Test

The virus is a tick-borne virus that causes hemorrhagic fever, with symptoms ranging from mild fever to severe bleeding and multi-organ failure. Early detection and treatment can improve outcomes, so testing is important for anyone suspected of having been exposed to the virus.

When this test is required

This test may be requested when someone has symptoms of CCHF or has been exposed to the virus.

What the Test Detects

This test detects the genetic material (RNA) of the CCHF virus in a blood sample. It can determine if a person is currently infected with the virus.
