Purpose of the Test

When this test is required

The CMV PCR test is highly sensitive and can detect very low levels of CMV DNA in a sample. However, it does not distinguish between active and inactive infections. In addition, the test may give false-positive or false-negative results, and therefore, it should be interpreted in conjunction with other clinical information.
