Purpose of the Test

The Anti-HDV test is typically ordered to diagnose a current or past HDV infection or to monitor the effectiveness of treatment.

When this test is required

The test is typically ordered if you have symptoms of liver disease, such as jaundice or abdominal pain, or if you have a history of exposure to HDV or HBV.

What the Test Detects

The Anti-HDV test is used to detect the presence of antibodies to HDV in the blood.

The test requires a blood sample, usually drawn from a vein in the arm.

If you test positive for Anti-HDV, your healthcare provider may order additional tests to evaluate the extent of the infection and determine the appropriate treatment. It’s also important to take steps to prevent the spread of HDV to others, such as practicing safe sex, avoiding sharing personal items, and getting vaccinated against HBV if you are not already immune.
