Purpose of the A/G Ratio Test

This test is often ordered as part of a routine health checkup, to assess liver and kidney function, to evaluate nutritional status, or to diagnose or monitor certain medical conditions such as liver disease, kidney disease, or autoimmune disorders.

When this A/G Ratio test is required

The test may be requested as part of a routine health checkup, or when a person has symptoms of liver or kidney disease, autoimmune disorders, or other conditions that may affect protein levels in the blood.

What the A/G Ratio Test Detects

The test measures the ratio of albumin to globulin proteins in the blood. Albumin is a protein produced by the liver and is the most abundant protein in the blood. Globulins are a group of proteins that are also produced by the liver and by the immune system.

Preparation for the A/G Ratio Test

No specific preparation is needed for this test.

Sample Requirements

A blood sample is required for this test.

Additional Notes

Abnormal A/G ratio results may require further evaluation by a healthcare provider to determine the underlying cause of the imbalance. The A/G ratio is not a definitive diagnostic test, and results must be interpreted in the context of a person’s medical history and other laboratory test results.
