The department of Molecular Diagnostics performs extremely sensitive tests for Hepatitis, Dengue Virus, Tuberculosis, and gene expression and mutation in Breast Cancer and Chronic Myeloid Leukemia.
Automated PCR Testing
Chughtai Lab is the only lab in the country where every single PCR test for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C is performed on fully automated system. Using the Abbott molecular m2000 system for DNA and RNA extraction and amplification allows the detection of very low viral loads, meeting and exceeding EASL guidelines for the treatment of Hepatitis patients.
The Abbott m2000sp and m2000rt instruments work together to form a fully automated platform for PCR testing.
The Genetics Lab performs the following tests using Flourescent in Situ Hybridization (FISH) technology:
- FISH for Her-2 Gene Amplification: This is the most sensitive test to detect Her 2 gene amplification in Breast cancer.
- FISH for BCR-ABL Translocation: This is the most sensitive test to establish diagnosis of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia.
The molecular lab also performs the VPIII test for bacterial vaginosis and the T Spot TB test for Tuberculosis.
