The department of Microbiology is responsible for the detection of infectious organisms and the determination of their sensitivity to various antibiotics. The department performs routine microbiology, blood cultures, fungal cultures and TB cultures.
TB Cultures are performed using MGIT technology.
Chughtai Lab is one of the first labs in the country to perform automated urinalysis using the Dirui Autoanalyzer. The autoanalyzer consists of two modules, which independently perform chemical analysis and microscopic examination of the urine sample. The instrument performs 60 tests an hour and significantly reduces the chances of human error in routine urinalysis.
The department performs blood cultures using the BACTEC blood culture system. The instruments can detect growth of the micro-organisms very easily, allowing the lab to report blood culture results to the treating physician faster than ever before.
